Jim Hardaway – Managing Director, Herman Miller, Houston
Jim is the HermanMiller Managing Director in Houston and a 29 year veteran of the office furniture industry. Since 1994, he has been in a leadership position at Herman Miller; responsible for developing and implementing the local Herman Miller sales strategy, aligning the local Herman Miller sales team with the appropriate corporate resources on strategic accounts, managing the dealer distribution strategy, coaching/motivating/developing the Herman Miller sales team, and initiating key business relationships that represent various functions and perspectives.

Clients that Jim has worked with include: ExxonMobil, BP, Sysco Foods, Hess, Apache, Marathon, KinderMorgan, and NASA. He currently serves on the Business Advisory Council for Goodwill Industries in Houston.

Jim is married to Lynn, a prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s office. They have two children, Sam and Elizabeth and live in the Memorial area.

Bobby Surles - Principal, Trademark
Bobby is a native Houstonian with extensive experience in project management and general contracting. Bobby has been involved with the management and construction of over $600,000,000 of shell and interior construction projects in his career which includes over 7 million sqare feet of interior projects in Houston. His managemetn style is one that places a high priority on communication at all levels of the construction process. This helps to clearly estabilish Client goals and achieve Client expectations on each project.

Kristen Johnson, RID - STG Design
Kristen Johnson is Director of Interiors | Houston for Susman Tisdale Gayle Design. Kristen came to STG in 2013 after serving as a Senior Associate at Kirksey Architects from 2007-2012. At Kirksey her responsibilities ranged from programming to construction documentation, to design development and specification of furnishings. While there, she developed a strong skill set which is uniquely suited to firms whose clients represent a broad range of vertical markets. Her work spanned from corporate to higher education, to residential. Kristen explored her love of interior design as a child here in Houston, where she was always fascinated with drawing, fashion, art and architecture. When she arrived at Texas Christian University in 1999, it was clear which direction she would go with her studies. After graduating from TCU in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Kristen returned to Houston to work in the office of renowned residential interior designer Marlys Tokerud. Under Marlys’ tutelage, Kristen continued to develop her own design sensibility, and discovered her greatest passion was helping clients achieve their goals while maintaining the principles of good, intelligent space planning. Kristen’s greatest fulfillment comes when her clients understand that great interiors are created over time. She believes beautiful and functional spaces are a reflection of the collected aesthetic, and can only be achieved with patience, care, and attention to detail.

Kristen is a member of The Rice Design Alliance, The Junior League of Houston, and is an Allied Member of ASID. Kristen also serves on the board of the Art League of Houston.

Moderator: Kip Altstaetter - KipCo
Graduate of the University of Alabama College of Commerce and Business Administration

Most of Kip's career has been spent as a Human Resource specialist in manufacturing and corporate settings. In October 2010, Kip started The KIpCo and CS Gulf Coast as a multi-line representative agency. The KipCo represent many quality architectural and interior products.

Please arrive at the Junior League at 10:30 AM to participate in an informal 30 minute round table discussion to be held before the regular meeting. A table will be reserved for this purpose and a moderator will be present.  Please bring plenty of business cards to share - we look forward to your participation!
